How to get there

Stroud lido is at Stratford Park, Stroud GL5 2AF. Parking is FREE in the large car park next to the lido.

The lido is a 10-minute walk from Stroud town centre – down Beeches Green, across by Tesco and the lake, up through the park, and round past the leisure centre, bowling green and tennis courts to the car park. Look for the beautiful new mural!

There are regular buses dropping just outside the Stratford Road entrances or just down the hill at Merrywalks, from Stonehouse, Dursley, Gloucester and across the town and district, and hourly trains from London and Gloucester / Cheltenham to the station a short hop away.

Facilities

There is a small cafe at the lido selling hot and cold drinks and snacks (including bacon butties!) and pool toys. Currently the cafe is open from opening time until the end of general swim at 5.30pm.

There is a mixed ‘changing village’ with individual and family cubicles, mixed showers and separate loos. Some people come with their swimming gear under their clothes and just get changed on the terrace. If you have any feedback on changing facilities, please do share it.

Outside the Stroud Lido site you’ll also find:

  • an indoor leisure centre with gym, sauna and another fabulous cafe
  • the wonderful Museum in the Park
  • loads of activities including two playparks, football pitches, a skatepark, tennis, and croquet club
  • the Saturday morning Stroud Parkrun
  • an arboretum, a wildlife-filled lake, a sensory garden… and even a monthly miniature railway running 10am-4pm on the last Sunday of every month!

How swimming works

The Lido is shallow at both ends (deep in the middle) and there’s plenty of space in general swimming to potter about at your own pace, though non-swimmers must stay in the shallow ends. During the lanes there are slow, medium and fast lanes and it feels a lot less crowded than the indoor pool – the lido is a very friendly environment and no-one is judging!

It’s also totally fine to come and just enjoy the surroundings and a drink in the cafe.

How else you can help

The lido has reopened, but it still needs your love. Here’s how you can help:

  • Come along and swim!
  • Tell your friends! And share posts on social media -we use #stroudlido
  • Put up a poster! You can download one here, or pick one up from the lido or venues in town
  • Share your ideas for the lido! We need your ideas for how to make the lido better for everyone, hopes, dreams, visions, so please share your ideas here
  • Thank your councillor for reopening the lido, and ask them to consult the community on what comes next – write to them here.
  • Get involved and stay in touch via our low-traffic Whatsapp supporters group, Instagram, or Facebook.

We couldn’t be more thrilled that the lido has reopened this summer – but the fight isn’t over yet. The longer-term future of the lido still needs care and thought, from the council and from all of us.
